SVARTHÖNA
The Svarthöna, or Swedish Black Hen, is a rare Swedish breed that shares similar physical characteristics to the Ayam Cemani — but the two should not be confused, as they come from entirely different origins.
In terms of appearance, the Svarthöna is a compact, rounded bird with a soft, mole-like silhouette — quite unlike the angular look of a game bird. They carry black skin and black feathering, and wild colouring feather and wild type are still present within the breed. More importantly though, breeders have focused on preserving the breed’s exceptional laying ability and hardiness above all else.
The Svarthöna is cold hardy and well suited to harsher climates. They are consistent layers of medium-sized, round, white eggs, making them a solid choice if egg production is a priority.
In temperament, they are calm, friendly, and inquisitive pleasant birds to keep and easy to manage.
